Pupil Voice

We are preparing our pupils to become the citizens of the future and lead positive change in our communities and beyond.  Central to this is a clear understanding of what it means to live in modern Britain.  British Values are embedded in our holistic curriculum offer and modelled through the way in which “we do things around here”.

Oracy is given high priority in our approach to teaching and learning with pupils encouraged to actively participate in their learning, express views and opinions, widen their vocabulary and communicate appropriately for different audiences.  Pupils knowing that they are contributors to the school community is very important to us and we involve pupils in many aspects of school life and decision-making: pupils sit on recruitment panels, are involved in leading tours of the school for new and prospective pupils and their families and meet with visitors to talk about their learning and their school experience.

We teach democracy and educate our pupils to ensure they have an understanding of the British political system.  This includes our school having its own “Pupil Parliament” with elected representatives who are voted in by the whole community through an annual election process.  This starts with candidates putting themselves forward, delivering their manifesto and applying for specific posts in our Pupil Parliament.  Our Year 6 leaders collate the views of other year groups and propose, design and lead on specific events in response to consultation processes.  Having a voice and feeling that your contribution really counts gives our pupils a sense of pride and responsibility as well as communicating to our school that everyone is important and everyone belongs.
